Mowmita completed her bachelor’s degree in Asian Studies from the Asian University for Women, and completed her master’s degree in International Development Management at the University of Bradford. She began her career as a human rights journalist at Dispatches International, and subsequently became a social entrepreneur and established the CLAP Foundation. She worked with the Asian University for Women, an international women’s university based in Bangladesh, as a program coordinator for underprivileged women students from garment factories and from refugee camps. Mowmita is associated with various national and international youth development organisations, and was awarded the Global Laureate Fellowship by International Youth Foundation for her excellence in entrepreneurial skills in 2014 and became the first Bangladeshi to receive the Asia Foundation Development Fellowship in 2015.

Mowmita is the Programme Manager for India, Lepra UK​. She oversees 43 health care projects related to Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) across 10 states of India. She is also the co-founder of Ithki, the UK-based sustainable ethical brand that provides economic opportunities for artisans.​

Mowmita is currently based in Milton Keynes, UK.
