The first Weidenfeld Scholar from Uruguay. She holds a PhD in International Law from the University of Groningen, an MJur from the University of Oxford, and an LLB from the Universidad de la Republica in Uruguay.

She holds post-graduate diplomas on women's rights and public policy design from the Universidad Austral en Argentina. She was awarded the Distinguished Scientist prize in 2019 by the Dutch Network of Female Professors and the Rubicon grant for her two-year independent research project on self-managed medical abortion by the Dutch Scientific Knowledge Organization (NWO).

She works for Women Help Women as a coordinator of a legal network of lawyers, scholars, and activists, where she previously coordinated the MAMA (Mobilizing Activists Around Medical Abortion) Project. She has consulted for WHO, Ipas, RSFU, inroads and others on different topics related to sexual and reproductive rights.

Lucia is a Board Member of the Centre for Gender Studies of the University of Groningen and Coordinator of the Gender & Diversity in Academia Summer School. ​She is also the Founder and Project Coordinator at Contá Conmigo.
