Kapil did his bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. He initially worked for three years with Procter and Gamble producing plastic packaging and then switched his career to find solutions to plastic pollution. He worked on environmental policy and implementation at multiple levels of governance partnering with civil society and government. As a feminist-environmentalist, Kapil sees himself working towards integrating issues of environmental justice and biodiversity conservation in the future.
Kapil is currently a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Leverhulme Centre for Wildfires, Environment and Society, based at Royal Holloway, University of London, where he researches fire governance, agrarian-environmental change, and the role of insurance in fire risk reduction. Kapil completed his PhD at King’s College London and was also a 2022 National Geographic Explorer.
