Leadership Programme

The WHT is not like traditional scholarships which focus on meeting your financial needs. The programme is well thought out and provides a well-rounded experience including academic, social, and practical life skills. The cohort was a close family unit, and my Oxford experience would not have been the same without it. I plan on paying it forward by working on implementing policies in developing countries that will help the most disadvantaged in those communities.

The Leadership Programme is the unique feature of the Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Scholarships. All participants undertake a leadership programme which is designed to develop their impact and effectiveness in addressing the complex challenges facing their countries. The programme involves 200 hours of personal skills development, business and entrepreneurship, building a foundation for ethical leadership, networking and - in the process - forming a community of support to sustain a lasting global network.

Throughout the year, they engage in intensive discussions on political and moral philosophy during which they explore what constitutes leadership and a 'just society'. Guided by leading academics and experts, they are encouraged to reflect on fundamental questions about how individuals engage in civic and public life, including the tensions that can exist between principles such as representation and democracy, equality and justice, and personal liberty and collective security.

From addressing problems to exploring solutions, we set out to empower these emerging leaders to develop the tools they will need to navigate the complexities of the world beyond their time at Oxford.

Throughout their time at Oxford, Scholars receive support from the Weidenfeld Scholarships Team who are on hand to support and provide advice on a range of issues, academic and pastoral.

From when I was about 14 years old, I dreamt about going to Oxford, and I worked exceedingly hard to achieve this goal. The Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Trust did not just give me the opportunity to achieve my goal, it exceeded my expectations. I say this not only because of the funding, but because of the transformative experience I have had through the Leadership Programme and my interactions with my fellow scholars, who have never failed to inspire me.
