Ivan is from Valledupar, a small city on Colombia’s northern Caribbean coast. With the support of a scholarship, he studied Law at Universidad de La Sabana. He has worked at the Bogotá City Council, the main policymaking body in Colombia’s capital and has also led political campaigns in the city. Most recently, he served as coordinator at Bogotá Cómo Vamos, a renowned non-governmental organization where he promoted citizen participation in public affairs, especially among university students, whom he engaged in research projects focused on the city's challenges.

Pursuing a Master of Public Policy at Oxford is a vital step in strengthening his political leadership. Ivan hopes to return to his city to inspire and support new leaders in running for office and to contribute to Valledupar’s social and economic transformation. His dream is to one day serve as mayor of his hometown.
