Mariana is a Mexican attorney specialising in human rights from the National Autonomous University of Mexico and a fierce advocate for women's rights. She read for an MPP as a WHT-Chevening scholar.

Mariana currently works for the Mexican Federal Judiciary Council, striving to integrate a gender perspective into judicial decisions and combat gender violence. Mariana has also contributed to public policies at the Special Prosecutor's Office for Crimes of Violence Against Women. In her spare time, she provides pro bono assistance to women affected by violence and hosts a podcast discussing social issues.

Reflecting on her journey from witnessing violence against women in Mexico to pursuing an MPP at Oxford, she says,

“I can’t help but feel a deep sense of gratitude for how far I’ve come…But I didn’t walk this path alone. Thanks to the incredible support from Chevening Awards and Weidenfeld Hoffmann Trust Scholarship and Leadership Programme I was honoured not only to receive a full scholarship, but two. Being a Chevening-WHT scholar opened doors to an invaluable network and a community that empowered me throughout my preparation in Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford I truly consider it a golden ticket.”

After her studies, Mariana moved to Mexico, where she has been working since. Mariana believes in the power of law to fuel social change. Equally, she is passionate about bridgign the gap between “policy and people.” During the Covid-19 pandemic, she started a podcast at the intersection of law, privacy, and technology. Mariana was also a Kofi-Annan and HOPE scholar, values which she embodies and advocates for in her career.
