MSc Social Anthropology, 2011
St Peter's College
Funding: Roland Berger

Samar completed her MSc in Social Anthropology as a Weidenfeld Scholar in 2011. She now holds the position of Program Coordinator at the United Nations in the Arab World Program and also works for the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs at the American University Beirut. Before coming to Oxford, she gained an MA in Anthropology at the American University of Beirut (2009).

The particular focus of her research was sectarian violence and developing an understanding of the Lebanese civil war in anthropological terms. Samar has had first-hand experience as a relief worker aiding internally displaced people during the 2006 war. Samar had specifically chosen the Weidenfeld Scholarship and Leadership Programme because it resonates with her understanding of political, religious and cultural diversity.
