An economist by training, Karim came to Oxford after having worked at the Ministry of Finance of Egypt for two years. During his time at the ministry, Karim worked on advising the minister on fiscal reforms worth $16 billion with a special focus on the energy sector. Karim also represented the ministry at various international meetings such as the IMF/World Bank Spring Meetings held in Washington, D.C. He also worked on several publications including Egypt’s Five Year Macroeconomic Framework and Strategy.

Karim holds a B.A. in Economics from The American University in Cairo and has briefly studied abroad at Pennsylvania State University in the USA. On graduation, he received the Top Student Award, the Caterpillar Foundation Scholarship for Civic Engagement and was elected to the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society. During his undergraduate studies, Karim was a Student Ambassador for his university and an Advocate for Civic Engagement at the Lazord Civic Leadership Academy.

Following his time at Oxford, Karim pursued further graduate studies in Economics at the University of Cambridge. ​Currently, he is an Associate at McKinsey & Company, Dubai, United Arab Emirates and Cairo, Egypt.​
