John completed his  DPhil student in Physical & Theoretical Chemistry at the University of Oxford as a Louis Dreyfus-Weidenfeld Scholar in 2015.

He graduated in Physics from École Polytechnique (2012) in France after pursuing his undergraduate studies at the American University in Cairo (AUC) in Electronics Engineering.  Being particularly interested in the bio-physical understanding of life science, he worked as a researcher at the École normale superieure de Lyon (ENS Lyon).

He hopes that the skills acquired as a Weidenfeld Scholar will enable him  to establish a research group devoted to the bio-physical understanding interactions between cells and viruses. Deeper research in that field will ideally help streamline the development of new drugs in the long term.

After graduating from Oxford, John took up a  postdoctoral associate position at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems. Currently, he is a Research Associate at the University of Cambridge, based in the group of Professor Sir David Klenerman FRS combining advanced nanoscopy, microfluidics and automation for high-throughput characterization of protein aggregates implicated in neurodegenerative diseases.
