Funding: Weidenfeld

Farida studied for an MSt in Middle Eastern Studies as a Weidenfeld Scholar from which she graduated in 2011. During her year at Oxford, she focused her research primarily on teacher training in early twentieth-century Egypt. She is currently conducting research on education and nationalism for a human rights NGO based in Cairo.

Prior to coming to Oxford, Farida obtained her BA in Political Science and History from the American University in Cairo in 2009, graduating summa cum laude. After completing her undergraduate degree, she worked on a joint gender budgeting project between the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) (now UNWOMEN) and the Egyptian Ministry of Finance. She is particularly interested in the modern history of the Middle East and Egypt, and particularly in the connection between education and nation-building.
