Arlette is an independent consultant. She works on governance related issues with a focus on private sector development, public financial management, education and health.

After her studies at the University of Oxford, she was able to expand the scope of her work from the DRC to emerging countries in general. Since graduating she has been involved in evaluations and research projects in Sierra-Leone, Sudan and Zambia.

Moving forward, Arlette is planning on continuing to work in this area, as they represent some of the key tools to achieve development, reduce poverty and decrease corruption in most African countries.

My experience at Oxford has particularly improved my analytical and writing skills, as well as the depth of my understanding about the comparative experience of different countries in relation to issues that determine their development and prosperity. This has enabled me to take on assignments beyond the DRC, including, for example, a research assignment exploring the best options for the implementation of fiscal decentralisation in Sudan. It is far too early to measure any impact, but I would think that bringing my perspectives from the DRC will improve the ultimate findings and recommendations, in turn potentially improving outcomes for people in Sudan.
