Farid Ahmadov: Advancing Justice at National and Global Scale

Farid Ahmadov is an Azerbaijani lawyer and senior government official who has played a prominent role in public administration, international governance, and legal reform. He has served as Minister of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan since February 27, 2024, following a presidential decree appointing him to lead one of the country’s key ministries responsible for overseeing the justice system and legal framework of the state.

Before his appointment as Minister of Justice, Ahmadov held several significant leadership positions in the Azerbaijani government. He served as Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transportation, where he provided strategic oversight and advice on digital transformation, innovation policy, and governance. Prior to that, he worked as an adviser to the Minister in the same department, contributing to shaping national policy on technology and infrastructure.

In 2022, he was elected as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Committee for the 2023–2026 term — the first Azerbaijani representative to sit on this prestigious body. In this role, he has been involved in monitoring global compliance with the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, helping to inform international human rights norms and practices.

Outside of government, Ahmadov has engaged with civil society and legal communities through publishing and professional mentorship. Ahmadov’s career reflects a blend of leadership in public service, influence in international human rights governance, and contributions to broader legal discourse, marking him as a significant figure in contemporary Azerbaijani and global legal affairs.
