Dipankar Ghose: Global Journalism for Global Challenges
Dipankar Ghose is an award-winning Indian journalist whose reporting has shaped public understanding of politics, conflict, human rights, and contemporary issues across South Asia. He’s currently Editor-in-Chief of Dialogue Earth, a global climate and environment newsroom headquartered in London, but producing outstanding journalism out of Asia, Africa, and Latin America. He leads global editorial strategy, with a focus on building rigorous, independent journalism from and about the Global South.
Prior to this, Dipankar served as the Deputy National Editor of Hindustan Times — India’s second‑largest English newspaper — Dipankar led a team of more than 40 correspondents from across the country. In this role, he drove daily news coverage, shaped investigative reporting, and anchored long‑form analysis on issues that matter to millions of readers. His work consistently foregrounds the experiences of ordinary people caught in the crosscurrents of politics, policy, and social change. His work during the COVID-19 crisis, particularly on migrant labour and institutional failure, shaped public debate in India.
He is a three‑time winner of the Ramnath Goenka Award for Excellence in Journalism — India’s most prestigious media honour — and also received the Prem Bhatia Memorial Award for Political Journalism for his sharp insights and fearless reporting. Dipankar read for the MSc in Modern South Asian Studies at Oxford.
