Dr Kubo Mačák is Professor of International Law at the University of Exeter. He is the author of Internationalized Armed Conflicts in International Law (Oxford University Press 2018) and of multiple articles in peer-reviewed journals including the International Review of the Red Cross, the Journal of Cyber Policy, and the Journal of Conflict and Security Law. Kubo is also the General Editor of the Cyber Law Toolkit, an interactive online resource on the international law of cyber operations.
He has undertaken research stays and fellowships at the Universities of Bonn (Germany), Haifa (Israel), Leiden (The Netherlands) and Wuhan (China). He has worked at the United Nations ad hoc tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda. Between 2019 and 2023, he served as a legal adviser at the International Committee of the Red Cross in Geneva. Kubo previously obtained an MJur (2008) and an MPhil in Law (2010) as a Weidenfeld Scholar, before completing his DPhil in Law in 2013. He also holds a Magister in Law from Charles University, Prague (2007).
