Sagar Dhakal: New Generation Leadership for Nepal
Sagar Dhakal is a Nepali engineer, researcher, author, and youth activist whose work bridges technical expertise with civic engagement and political reform. A passionate advocate for good governance, youth empowerment, and anti-corruption, Dhakal has been an active voice in civic engagement.
In the 2022 general elections, he ran as an independent candidate for the House of Representatives from Dadeldhura, drawing attention as a reform-minded leader challenging established political figures. Building on this momentum, in 2023 Dhakal officially announced his candidacy for Prime Minister of Nepal, positioning himself as a representative of the younger generation and a proponent of evidence-based policy, transparency, and national development.
His current vision - Mission 82 - is designed to transform Nepal by 2082 BS (2025 AD). At its core, it envisions a nation that is prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable, built on the pillars of innovation, accountable governance, and citizen empowerment. The mission seeks not only economic growth but also the strengthening of social cohesion, environmental stewardship, and equitable access to opportunities for all Nepali citizens.
Dhakal holds a Master’s in Water Science, Policy, and Management from the University of Oxford, which he pursued as a Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Scholar. In addition to politics, he continues to contribute to Nepal’s professional and economic sectors. In December 2024, he was elected President of the Stock Brokers Association of Nepal (SBAN). Before entering national politics, he worked as a hydro-mechanical engineer on major projects, including Nepal’s 410 MW Nalsing Gad Storage Hydropower Project, conducted research on sustainable water management.
